Undertaking an Effective Members Allowances Review

This workshop aims to support members of the Independent Remuneration Panel to undertake an effective review of Members Allowances

It aims are:

  • To understand the role and responsibilites of the IRP and the legislative framework
  • Project planning and scoping the review
  • How to determine and set the Basic Allowance and Special Responsibility Allowances
  • Determining and setting the other key allowances e.g. dependent Carers' Allowances
  • How to set and prioritise the allowances for Parish & Town Coincils
  • To develop the Panel skills, e.g. preparing and undertaking interviews and question planning


The workshop will consist of some input from the facilitator and a number of group discussions. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on what way they have learnt and how they will put it in to practice.
